Michigan Governor Signs Law Eliminating February Regular Elections
Michigan Governor Snyder signed a series of bills on June 30, 2015 amending the Michigan Election Law. The legislation eliminates the regular election date on the fourth Tuesday in February, as well as the March election in years when a statewide presidential primary is held under Section 613a of the Election Law.
The remaining regular election dates will continue to occur on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May, August and November, and statewide presidential primaries will occur on the second Tuesday in March.
Other highlights of the legislation include:
•The elimination of the regular primary election for cities holding a regular election in May.
•Changes to the dates for recall general elections and for special recall elections to the May or August regular election dates, whichever occurs first.
