Miller Canfield Participates In Goodfellow Program

November 26, 2001

Every little girl dreams of a special doll for Christmas, and the staff at the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. helps assure that those dreams come true.

For the past twelve years, numerous staff have assisted the Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit in its annual Doll Program. The Doll Program at Miller Canfield is a team effort. For example, this year Detroit Country Day School Brownie Troop #4020 assisted the Miller Canfield team by dressing 40 dolls. Miller Canfield dressed a total of 244 dolls this year.

The Goodfellows, now in its 77th year, will distribute 15,000 dolls dressed by several hundred volunteers from a variety of community, civic, and corporate groups. The Doll Program is one of many programs operated by the Goodfellows since 1914.

Along with thousands of Christmas packages, the Goodfellows also provide emergency dental care and shoes to many of these same children throughout the year. It is estimated that approximately 42,000 needy children will benefit from the Goodfellows program this year, representing a third of the school-age children in Detroit. It is through the generosity of many volunteers that the Goodfellows fulfill their long-standing pledge "No Kiddie Without A Christmas."

Thomas W. Linn, Chief Executive Officer at Miller Canfield, said "Miller Canfield is pleased to contribute in a small way to the goals of the Goodfellows in giving a helping hand to children who might not otherwise have a special holiday season. We are proud that many of our staff and attorneys are involved in this very fine organization."

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Goodfellows can do so by sending contributions to Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., 150 W. Jefferson, Suite 2500, Detroit, Michigan 48226, Attention: Peter W. Waldmeir, Clarence L. Pozza, Jr. or Michael P. Coakley. Checks should be written to "Old Newsboys Goodfellow Fund of Detroit."
