August 21, 2003

Three attorneys from Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. were named top attorneys in Michigan in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2003-2004 , a client’s referral guide designed to present an objective guide to the best practitioners in the main areas of corporate law. Leonard D. Givens was named in the Employment & Labor Law category; David D. Joswick was named in the Banking & Finance and Corporate M&A sections; and Carl H. von Ende was named in the Litigation section. The guide also ranks Miller Canfield as the top business law firm in the state of Michigan.

Givens is a principal in the Detroit office and heads the firm’s Labor and Employment Law Group. From 1991-94, he served as the firm’s chief executive officer. His experience encompasses all facets of labor and employment law and school law, including unfair labor practices, employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, employment and personnel manuals, teacher tenure, and student rights to privacy.

Joswick, a principal in the Troy office, is a member of the Business and Finance Group and practices corporate and securities law. He also is a member of the Corporate Compliance Group and is past head of the former East Michigan Business Services Group (now Business and Finance Group).

von Ende is a principal in the Detroit office and a member of the firm’s Litigation Group, which he directed from 1990-1999. He represents clients in a variety of areas – from bank mergers, antitrust cases, and constitutional disputes – to securities class actions and takeover matters.

Chambers USA conducted an exhaustive, year-long peer-review survey in which more than 4,500 telephone surveys were conducted and tens of thousands of comments were collected from lawyers and clients across the U.S. Firms are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be ranked, making the guide a reflection of market opinion.
