Miller Canfield Attorney Receives First Annual Don Stone Award

Kurt P. McCamman, an attorney in the Kalamazoo office of the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., is the recipient of the first annual Donald P. Stone Service Award from the Kalamazoo County Bar Association. The award is designated for a young attorney who through his or her service contributes to the quality of the legal profession and/or the quality of life in Kalamazoo County. The award was presented on May 15, 2002, at the Kalamazoo County Bar Association's annual meeting.

Mr. McCamman has been practicing law since 1994 when he joined Miller Canfield following graduation from Notre Dame Law School. Prior to that he served for 17 years as a police officer and detective for Kalamazoo Township, an experience that greatly enhanced his awareness of the community. He has worked with the Kalamazoo Central High School Mock Trial Team since 1994; and as a consulting coach for the Western Michigan University Mock Trial team. He has provided free legal services to several local nonprofit organizations and indigents and also volunteers at the Douglas Community Center Legal Outreach Clinic where he has served for many years; has served on the System Offender Diversion Task Force; and volunteers for various nonprofit organizations, including the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts where he currently serves on the Corporate Development Committee. Kurt has been host and mentor to several high school students in mentoring and "job shadow" programs; volunteers as a citizen member of the Kalamazoo Township Police Department "Oral Board;" is a United Way volunteer; and is active in the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, and the Kalamazoo County Bar Association. He also is a life member of The National Registry of Who's Who.

Mr. McCamman's law practice centers on product liability and injury litigation and dispute resolution, as well as representation of schools, universities, and local government.

He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude in criminal justice and philosophy from Western Michigan University.

He resides in Kalamazoo.
