June 24, 2003

Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. announced today that it is ranked the top law firm in Michigan in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2003-2004, a client’s referral guide designed to present an objective guide to the best practitioners in the main areas of corporate law.

The guide ranks Miller Canfield as the top business law firm overall and states, "One of the biggest firms in the state, it covers a wide spectrum of business matters. On the corporate side, it is particularly strong in municipal finance. The firm is highly recommended for its employment practice, and for banking and finance, where it serves as general counsel to major financial institutions."

Further, the guide ranks areas of corporate law in these categories: Banking and Finance, Corporate/M&A, Employment & Labor Law (plaintiff/defendant), Litigation, and Real Estate. In the state of Michigan, Miller Canfield ranked number one in Employment & Labor Law (defendant), tied for the top spot in Litigation, and consistently ranked second in the other categories.

"All quotes in the guide are from interviews with clients and competitors conducted by Chambers USA," said Thomas W. Linn, CEO, Miller Canfield. "It makes us proud to be held in such high regard by clients and competitors across the board. Our aspiration for over 150 years has been to be the number one firm and these ratings are a confirmation of our efforts."

This year, Chambers USA conducted an exhaustive, year-long peer-review survey in which more than 4,500 telephone surveys were conducted and tens of thousands comments were collected from lawyers and clients across the U.S. Firms are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be ranked, making the guide a reflection of market opinion.
