Miller Canfield, Detroit Regional Chamber Partner to Offer Chamber Members Valuable Labor and Employment Law Information

October 6, 2004

The law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. and the Detroit Regional Chamber have partnered to offer valuable labor and employment law events to Chamber members. Miller Canfield's Annual Labor & Employment Law Seminar on October 28 and the firm's bi-monthly Morning Update series are available at a special price.

"Employers face a variety of legal concerns as the government increases workplace regulation and as workers become more vocal and litigious in protecting individual rights," said John H. Willems, Miller Canfield labor and employment attorney and coordinator of this year's annual seminar. "Our sessions provide attendees with useful strategies and tools for today's workplace issues – from the Fair Labor Standards Act and corporate compliance matters to technology and health care issues."

Miller Canfield's Annual Labor & Employment Law Seminar will be held at the MSU Education Center in Troy on October 28. The day-long seminar will feature a lively and informative debate on the merits of arbitration agreements and policies for non-union employees, led by three prominent labor law experts who hold strongly opposing views on this controversial topic. The seminar is FREE for Chamber members at the Bronze Level and above; $45 for Business Builder Level members; and $85 for Non-Members. For more information on the seminar, please visit www.millercanfield.com.

The next Miller Canfield Morning Update session is "A Practical Guide to Discipline and Discharge," November 10, in the firm's Troy office. Human resources professionals can learn ways to reduce their organizations’ exposure for liability. A framework for employers to effect legally defensible discipline and the lawful discharge of employees will be provided. The 8:00-9:00 a.m. session is FREE for Chamber members at the Bronze Level and above; $10 for Business Builder Level members; and $20 for Non-Members.

For details and reservations, call the Detroit Regional Chamber at 1-866-MBR-LINE. Please specify your membership level.

The Annual Seminar has been approved for seven recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). For more information about certification or recertification, please visit the HRCI homepage at www.hrci.org.
