Conrad R. Wolan

Conrad Wolan has spent his career helping clients across diverse sectors deal with conflict and compliance. With a focus on higher education, Conrad counsels managers, leadership, and boards in addressing risk management and avoiding disputes; but when disputes become unavoidable, he handles proceedings in mediation, arbitration, and state and federal courts.

Conrad's clients have included higher education and K-12 institutions, healthcare providers, nonprofits, trusts, financial institutions, manufacturers, and contractors, and he has litigated matters involving employment statutes, student civil rights, professional malpractice, contracts, real property, trusts and estates, and construction disputes. Beyond litigation, Conrad provides employers with a full range of advice, including handbook review, statutory and regulatory compliance, and contracting. In particular, Conrad advises colleges and universities in matters involving employment disputes; faculty appointments; student civil rights and contract claims; data privacy and security under FERPA, HIPAA, and other statutes; student health services; records requests pursuant to subpoenas and freedom of information laws; construction disputes; and research integrity investigations.

Before joining Miller Canfield, Conrad served as Senior Associate General Counsel for Cornell University, where he handled civil litigation and advised on issues involving the student health center, privacy, research integrity, and risk management. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at a law firm in New York State, focusing for more than two decades on general litigation, employment law, and education law for both private and public sector clients.
