Miller Canfield Welcomes Conrad Wolan to Employment and Labor Group, Expanding Higher Education Team

February 2, 2026

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Conrad Wolan has joined the firm’s Lansing office as a member of its Employment and Labor Group and its Higher Education team.

Wolan has considerable experience advising colleges and universities on complex disputes, regulatory compliance, and employment matters. He joins Miller Canfield from Cornell University’s Office of General Counsel, where he served as Practice Group Lead for Litigation, Administrative Proceedings and Regulatory Compliance. In that role, he represented the university in civil litigation and counseled it on issues involving employment claims, subpoena responses, and compliance requirements such as FOIA, FERPA, and HIPAA, among other matters.

“Miller Canfield is committed to delivering services where our clients need it most, from the classroom to the boardroom to the courtroom,” said Miller Canfield CEO Michael Palizzi. “Conrad’s background in higher education and employment matters strengthens our ability to help colleges and universities manage risk, stay compliant, and stay focused on their missions.”

Miller Canfield’s Higher Education team takes an interdisciplinary approach designed to help institutions fulfill their mission while minimizing litigation risk and navigating an increasingly complex regulatory environment. The team represents public and private not-for-profit institutions, for-profit education providers, education and athletic associations, and educational foundations, providing both project-focused counsel and day-to-day legal support.

The team advises higher education clients across a broad range of issues, including Title IX compliance, investigations, and litigation; labor and employment; corporate governance and finance; dispute resolution; technology and privacy; regulatory compliance; and export controls and sanctions.

Wolan earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School and his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University’s James Madison College.
