Longtime Miller Canfield Attorney James Williams Dies at 77
With great sadness, Miller Canfield announces that James Williams died on Oct. 2, 2020, following an extended illness. He was 77 years old. The announcement was made by CEO Michael McGee.
“Jim was one of the giants of the firm,” McGee said. “He was a great lawyer and a wonderful man, known for his deep compassion and love for his fellow man and nature. He was a mentor and role model whose door was always open, and he had a gift for making everyone around him feel at ease.”
For 48 years, Williams served clients in wills, trusts, prenuptial agreements, gift and estate tax planning. He was well respected by colleagues and opposing counsel alike, and clients frequently spoke of how his kindness helped them to get through difficult personal challenges.
He is survived by his wife Marva and their sons Jim, Jr. (Maria) and David (Debby), and five grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. His obituary may be read here.
