Miller Canfield Welcomes Corporate Associate Richard Key

August 17, 2026

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Richard D. Key has joined the firm as an associate in the Corporate and Transactions Group. He is based in the firm’s Troy office.

Key brings a distinctive combination of legal, business and government-contracting experience, with a background in the aerospace and defense industries. Most recently, he served as a government contracts manager at GE Aerospace, where he managed a $350 million portfolio of U.S. government defense contracts involving military engine programs and worked with government and internal stakeholders on contract negotiations, compliance and risk management.

His experience also includes advising on federal contracting requirements and export controls, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Earlier in his career at GE Aerospace, he held roles focused on government property, logistics quality and regulatory compliance.

“Richard’s combination of legal training, business acumen and practical experience working in highly regulated industries will be a tremendous asset to our clients,” said Miller Canfield CEO Michael Palizzi. “His background gives him a valuable understanding of the operational and regulatory issues businesses face, particularly those working with government customers and in the aerospace and defense sectors.”

Key earned both his J.D. and MBA, with a concentration in marketing, from DePaul University and his bachelor’s degree in political science from Northeastern University.

He is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.
