Miller Canfield Attorney Gerald Gleeson Receives Prestigious Cook-Friedman Civility Award
Miller Canfield is proud to announce that Gerald Gleeson has been honored with the Cook–Friedman Civility Award by the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. This esteemed award recognizes civil practitioners who exemplify professional excellence and civility in their practices.
The Cook-Friedman Civility Award, named after former Chief Judges Julien Abele Cook and Bernard A. Friedman in recognition of their dedication to civility, was established in 2008. It is presented each year at the FBA’s Annual Dinner to an attorney who is deemed to exemplify outstanding professionalism and civility in their practice. The recipient must consistently demonstrate not only the “highest levels of legal competency” but also conduct himself/herself “in accordance with the highest standards of professional integrity and personal courtesy.”
Gleeson is one of four attorneys at Miller Canfield to receive this honor, joining Carl von Ende, Saul Green, and Tom Cranmer. Miller Canfield has more recipients than any other firm, which underscores the firm’s culture of collegiality and professionalism.
The award is named in recognition of two outstanding jurists: former Chief Judge Julian Abele Cook, Jr., who established the first Civility Committee in the Eastern District of Michigan in 1998, and Chief Judge Bernard A. Friedman, who formed the Court’s second Civility Committee in 2007. Their dedication to civility has set the standard for legal practitioners in the district.
Miller Canfield congratulates Gerald Gleeson on this remarkable achievement and celebrates the firm’s legacy of fostering a professional and civil culture.
