Bret Totoraitis Joins Miller Canfield’s Energy & Environmental Group
Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Bret Totoraitis, an experienced energy and utility regulatory attorney, has joined the firm’s Energy & Environmental Group in Lansing.
Totoraitis comes to Miller Canfield from Consumers Energy, where he served as associate general counsel for regulatory matters and leads the company’s Regulatory Practice Group. In that role, he supervised a team of attorneys and support staff representing the company in all aspects of state utility regulation. He previously served as a regulatory attorney at Consumers Energy, representing the company primarily in electric and natural gas regulatory proceedings.
“Bret knows Michigan’s energy and regulatory landscape from years of working directly in it, and that experience will be a tremendous asset to our clients,” said Miller Canfield CEO Michael Palizzi. “He is a great addition to a team with deep experience across the energy and environmental sectors, and we’re very pleased to welcome him to Miller Canfield.”
Totoraitis joins a highly experienced team serving public utility and energy clients in matters involving electric, natural gas and pipeline services. The firm’s work encompasses Michigan Public Service Commission regulation, rate and tariff matters, energy reliability and efficiency standards, regulatory compliance litigation, siting and environmental permitting, power purchase agreements, renewable energy development and finance, and state and federal litigation.
Totoraitis earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he graduated second in his class, and his B.A. in political science summa cum laude from Grand Valley State University. He is licensed to practice in Michigan and is admitted before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
