Miller Canfield Lawyer David M. Thoms Appointed to Board of Directors of Greenleaf Trust

David M. Thoms, a principal in Miller Canfield's Troy office, was appointed to the board of directors of Greenleaf Trust, the independent Michigan-chartered trust-only bank dedicated to helping clients achieve financial security from generation to generation.

Thoms is in the Personal Services Group and co-leader of the Nonprofit and Charitable Organizations Group at Miller Canfield.  He concentrates his practice in estate planning and tax, non-profit organizations, business entity planning and tax, succession planning, and real estate.

He received an L.L.M. in taxation from Wayne State University School of Law, a J.D. from the University of Detroit-Mercy, a M.U.P. (Masters of Urban Planning) from Wayne State University, and a B.A. in History, with distinction, from Kalamazoo College.  He also attended l'Université de Caen, France.

Thoms is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Probate and Estate Planning, Real Property, Tax, Corporate and Environmental Law Sections.  He is a member of the New York State Bar, The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, American Planning Association; Michigan Association of Planners; Financial and Estate Planning Council of Detroit, and Planned Giving Council of Detroit, along with numerous civic and charitable organizations.  He is listed in the Trusts and Estates and Non-Profit/Charities Law sections of The Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in America, American Law, Midwest, World, and Emerging Leaders in America.
