Wings Alumni To Face Miller Canfield In Charity Game

December 4, 2001

The Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association is set to face-off against the Miller Canfield Bombers on Friday, January 25, 2002, for a game to benefit the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s (NKFM) Team Michigan and the Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association charities. The Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association is the oldest such organization in the NHL. Founded in 1959 by several notable Red Wing players, the Association donates almost 100% of its proceeds to charities in the U.S. and Canada.

The Red Wing Alumni’s competition in this game is the Miller Canfield Bombers. Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., is Michigan's largest law firm with over 260 attorneys. It is also Michigan's oldest law firm and it will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2002. The Miller Canfield Bombers hockey team is made up of attorneys and employees of the firm. Miller Canfield has chosen the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s Team Michigan as their charity of choice for this game.

Team Michigan is a group of people from across the state who have received an organ or tissue transplant. Team Michigan will participate in the 2002 U.S. Transplant Games on June 25-29. Team Michigan will join 50 state teams from across the United States in what promises to be the largest-ever gathering of transplant recipients. An anticipated 2,000 athletes will participate.

The charity hockey game will be played on Friday, January 25, 2002, at 7:30 pm at Great Lakes Sports City ("D" Rink) in Fraser. Tickets are $10 per person or 2 for $15.
