Miller Canfield Attorney Joel Piell Elected Chair of Municipal Advisory Council of Michigan Board of Directors

The law firm of Miller Canfield proudly announces that Joel L. Piell, senior counsel in the Detroit office, was recently elected chair of the board of directors of The Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) of Michigan, effective January 1, 2008.

MAC is an information and service organization for an association of businesses involved in the municipal bond industry. It gathers, retains and reports information about Michigan municipal bonds, tax and securities matters as a service to its members.

At Miller Canfield, Piell practices public law, including municipal finance and bond law, municipal law, and public authority finance law. He has served as a managing partner and as the firm’s chief executive officer, and for many years served as chair of the firm’s Public Law Practice Group.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, National Association of Bond Attorneys, Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel, Governmental Finance Officers’ Association, Municipal Treasurers’ Association, National Association of Municipal Lawyers, Bond Club of Detroit, serves on the Legislative Committee of the Michigan Municipal Finance Officers’ Association, is a member of the President's Advisory Council of Walsh College. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Public Law Finance Section of the 2007 and 2008 editions.

Piell received his law degree from Northwestern University and his B.A. in political science and economics from the University of Illinois.
