Miller Canfield Attorney Loren Opper Given Meritorious Service Award by Tax Executives Institute

The law firm of Miller Canfield proudly announces that Loren M. Opper, senior counsel in the Detroit office, recently received a Meritorious Service Award from the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), the preeminent, international professional organization of in-house tax professionals.

Opper was given the award for his many years of dedication to advancing TEI’s educational, networking and advocacy goals. He is a former Chapter president and director of TEI-Detroit. He was recognized for assisting the IRS and TEI in explaining to taxpayers the significant reorganization of the IRS in 2000. He was also honored for presenting on a variety of tax matters to TEI members over the years, including subjects relating to IRS administrative affairs, and for preparing and submitting comments to the IRS on positions that the IRS proposed to adopt.

Opper focuses his practice on federal tax controversies, including income and employment taxes, in the Federal courts, and matters within the IRS, including examinations and administrative appeals.

He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and New York State Bar. He has volunteered his services to the Accounting Aid Society, preparing tax returns for low-income individuals.

He received his LL.B. from Columbia Law School and LL.M. in Taxation from Wayne State Law School. In 1962 he received an A.B. degree from Columbia College.

He resides in West Bloomfield, Mich.
