Miller Canfield Names Co-Group Leader of Labor and Employment Group

The law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. announces that Megan P. Norris, principal in the Detroit office, has been named co-group leader of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group. She joins Leonard D. Givens in leading the 32-attorney group, which is ranked by Chambers USA as Michigan’s leading practice in Labor and Employment law.

Norris practices employment litigation defense. She is the author of several articles on employment law and has been a frequent speaker on employment issues such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, including Title II and Title III, the Family and Medical Leave Act, sexual harassment, wrongful discharge, and discrimination. She is coauthor of the 1994 edition of the Michigan Public Employers Labor Relations Manual chapter on disability discrimination, and coauthor of the Schlei and Grossman, Employment Discrimination Law, supplement on the Americans with Disabilities Act, published in 1998, 2000, and 2002.

In 2001, she was appointed by Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer to serve on the city of Detroit's Police Commission, and in 2002 was elected its chair. She is the immediate past president of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and former president of the Detroit Barristers Association. She currently serves on the Labor Advisory Board for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. She is the former president of the board of trustees for the Deaf, Hearing & Speech Center, former president of the board of trustees for the Wayne State University Episcopal Chaplaincy, and former president of the board of directors of the Whitaker School of Theology. Additionally, she is a member of the board of trustees of Wesleyan University.

Norris graduated with honors from Wesleyan University, majoring in music (West African drumming) and government (American politics). She is also a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Law.

She is listed in the Labor and Employment Law Section of the 2003-04 edition of The Best Lawyers in America .

She resides in Detroit.
