VP of the Polish Foreign Investment Agency Meets with Michigan and Canadian Business Leaders, November 21-22

November 8, 2002

The Vice President of the Polish Foreign Investment Agency, Roman Kornacki, plans to visit Detroit November 21-22 to meet with Michigan and Canadian firms interested in establishing operations – or simply having a business presence – in Poland. The Detroit-based law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., which has three offices in Poland, is organizing his visit. Business leaders interested in meeting with Mr. Kornacki should contact attorney Richard A. Walawender at (313) 496-7628 or walawender@millercanfield.com.

"Mr. Kornacki will discuss government subsidies, tax incentives and duty-free opportunities for companies open to the idea of future investment in Poland," said Richard A. Walawender, who specializes in international business and leads Miller Canfield’s Business and Finance Group. "Auto suppliers and general manufacturers in particular will find highly competitive labor costs and an overall economic environment conducive for mass production. Moreover, with the country poised to join the European Union in 13 months, Poland becomes a duty-free back door to Western Europe."

The Polish Foreign Investment Agency (PAIZ), established in 1992, seeks to promote the inflow of foreign direct investment into Poland. It has developed considerable expertise in assisting American businesses in establishing a presence in Poland through a variety of free services.

Miller Canfield opened its first office in Poland in 1991 in Gdansk and subsequently expanded and moved the office to Gdynia. The growth of its practice in Poland led to the opening of a Warsaw office in 1993, followed by an office in Katowice. Lawyers in the firm's U.S. offices work closely with the attorneys in the Poland offices to counsel clients in representing many multinational corporations, financial institutions and others in establishing and conducting a broad spectrum of manufacturing, commercial and financial operations and activities in Poland.

Celebrating its 150th anniversary, the 300-attorney law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. was established in Detroit in 1852 and has offices in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Howell, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Monroe, Troy, New York City, Pensacola, Florida, Washington, D.C., Windsor, Ontario, and in Gdynia, Katowice, and Warsaw, Poland.
