Miller Canfield Lawyer Ron Baylor Named Leader of Energy, Environmental and Regulatory Group

Baylor Honored with Outstanding Service Award by Calvin College

April 17, 2013

The law firm of Miller Canfield announces that Ronald E. Baylor, a principal in the Kalamazoo office, has been named leader of the firm’s Energy, Environmental and Regulatory Group (EERG). In addition, he received the 2013 Outstanding Service Award given by the Calvin College Alumni Association in recognition of his 30+ years of volunteer service to the school.

Baylor served as resident director of the firm’s Kalamazoo office from 2008 to March 2013. As EERG group leader, he oversees a team of energy, environmental and regulatory lawyers and paralegals located in offices across Michigan.  The team offers environmental counseling and assistance with regulatory compliance and permitting, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, and project packaging.

Baylor’s Michigan-wide practice includes counseling business, industry, lenders and local governments on managing environmental risk, including compliance and permitting, waste and wastewater cleanups and environmental issues arising in the sale, purchase, financing and redevelopment of real property. He also handles injury, commercial and environmental litigation, disputes about cost recovery and insurance coverage, and defends against regulatory enforcement actions before state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

Baylor earned his bachelor’s degree from Calvin College in 1977. He was recently honored by the college’s alumni association with its Distinguished Service Award in recognition of longstanding and exemplary service. Among early efforts, he helped launch a directory of Calvin’s North American alumni legal practitioners, well before the age of internet search engines. He joined the Alumni Association Board in 1999 and later served as its president. In 2005, he was nominated to Calvin’s Board of Trustees and served on the board for six years. He was the board’s vice president from 2008-2011.

Baylor received his law degree, with honors, from Wayne State University Law School in 1980. He resides in Kalamazoo, where he has served on the boards of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association, Junior Achievement, Kalamazoo Christian School Association, Friends of the Kal Haven Trail, and Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce.
