Litigation + Trial Practice Overview

Miller Canfield’s business trial lawyers have successfully tried all manner of business cases to juries, judges and arbitrators (domestic and international).  Our Trial Practice clients include Fortune 500 companies, smaller businesses, individuals and governmental and non-profit organizations.  We have achieved many significant victories for our clients.  Some examples:

  • We pursued a nuclear power utility’s plant designer for cost overruns and construction delays.  Result:  After an eight month trial, we obtained the then largest settlement in American legal history - $750,000,000.
  • We defended a $12 million claim by the government against an automotive client.  Result:  Dismissal.
  • We have successfully defended multi-million dollar fraud claims against several clients.
  • We have successfully defended clients in numerous high-profile federal and state criminal prosecutions.

In all of these cases, our clients have entrusted our trial lawyers with many of their most sensitive and important matters and enjoyed similar positive results.  Click here for additional examples.

Our trial group, and individual lawyers within it, have been repeatedly recognized for the world class services we provide, including by the American College of Trial Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell, Corporate Counsel Magazine, Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, and Super Lawyers.  For example, the 2008 Chambers USA ratings – based in large part upon interviews with our clients -- placed our trial group in the “first band," and recognized several of us for individual excellence.
