Super Lawyers magazine names lawyers in each state who received the highest point totals, as chosen by their peers and through independent research. Rising Stars names the state’s top up-and-coming lawyers. It combines peer nominations and evaluations with third-party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.

Michigan Super Lawyers is published annually in September in a special advertising supplement in The New York Times.  Illinois Super Lawyers & Rising Stars is published annually in February in a special advertising section in Chicago magazine.
