Ryan Elsey specializes in complex commercial, criminal, and regulatory enforcement litigation.

Ryan previously practiced for several years at an elite international law firm’s Washington, D.C. office, focusing on investigations and enforcement litigation involving sophisticated derivatives and securities markets.

Immediately before joining Miller Canfield, Ryan clerked for the Honorable Laurie J. Michelson with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Throughout his two-year clerkship, Ryan saw various civil and criminal cases through from start to finish, learning effective ways to persuade judges at all stages of litigation and juries at trial.

Ryan has a passion for giving back to the community through an active pro bono practice. He has briefed and argued criminal appeals for indigent defendants and served as a court-appointed special prosecutor in criminal contempt cases arising from domestic violence allegations. As a law student, Ryan co-directed Berkeley Law's Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project chapter, fighting to obtain special immigrant visas for Iraqis who put their lives on the line while serving U.S. forces in Iraq.
