Conor Fitzpatrick specializes in complex litigation, both trials and appeals. He was named one of Michigan’s “Rising Stars” by Super Lawyers in 2016.

Conor counsels clients on trial and appellate strategy across the country in state and federal court. At the trial court level, Conor has successfully navigated clients through litigation and discovery disputes in Michigan federal courts as well as the Eastern District of Virginia “Rocket Docket.” In one matter, Conor successfully argued for application of collateral estoppel, thus avoiding three additional jury trials. And on appeal, he’s succeeded on behalf of a Fortune 500 company at the Michigan Supreme Court.

Specializing in writing trial and appellate briefs, Conor is known for emphasizing clarity over legalese. Frequently, Conor is called in to brief and argue novel issues of procedure or law which have not been clarified by appellate courts in decades (or longer). Conor’s briefs are the product of careful research and editing, resulting in a persuasive final product that renders even the most multilayered case or obscure issue of law easily understandable.

Appellate work does not begin after the case is tried. Conor begins preparing for a possible appeal during trial. He assists trial counsel in briefing and arguing motions in limine, motions for directed verdict, and other bench briefs that are filed during the trial, all to ensure that objections are properly preserved on the record for potential issues on appeal. Conor has assisted excess insurers in monitoring trials and providing daily trial reports for cases involving eight-figure exposure levels.  Conor collaborates with trial counsel to present the best possible case for the client.

Before joining Miller Canfield, Conor grew up in Henderson, Nevada and spent time living in London, England. While in London, Conor studied at the London School of Economics and worked as a mentor and debate coach in underprivileged schools in East London. When not working, Conor enjoys supporting his beloved Leyton Orient Football Club.
