Miller Canfield Attorney Elected President of Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys

The law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. announces that William B. Beach, senior attorney in the firm’s Detroit office, was recently elected president of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys (MAMA) and elected chairman of the Legal Defense Fund for a two-year term, both of the Michigan Municipal League.

The MAMA is an organization of more than 533 municipal attorneys working to strengthen the quality of legal representation of municipal corporations through continuing education and assisting in the exchange of ideas. The Legal Defense Fund was formed jointly by MAMA to assist member municipalities in appellate court litigation with issues of statewide significance.

At Miller Canfield, Beach practices all aspects of municipal law, and county and state governmental law. He currently serves as city attorney for the city of Rockwood, and has been the city attorney to the city of Southfield and special assistant city attorney to the cities of Royal Oak, Muskegon, Troy, Lansing, Detroit and Grosse Pointe. He is also a special assistant attorney general for the state of Michigan.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, where he has been on the board of directors of the Public Law Section since 1982, State Bar of Florida, Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, and the National Institute of Municipal Law Officers. He is involved in several civic organizations including the Detroit Chamber of Commerce, World Trade Club, Detroit Economic Club, and the Detroit Institute of Art Founders’ Society. In 2001, he was elected chief executive officer of the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, Great Lakes Chapter, where he has been president since 1999.

He received his law degree from Wayne State University, and his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College.

He resides in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
