Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Kamil Robakiewicz has been named among Michigan Lawyers Weekly's Up & Coming Lawyers Class of 2020.

The program honors 25 Michigan lawyers who have been practicing for 10 years or less and who have established a name for themselves by displaying ambition, drive and accomplishments that differentiate them from their peers.

Robakiewicz is a principal in Miller Canfield's office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He joined the firm's Employment and Labor Group in 2016 and soon after went to work on complex and highly publicized litigation matters.

Robakiewicz's notable matters include:

  • Representation of Michigan State University in the largest Title IX case in the state's history.
  • Eplee v Lansing Board of Water and Light, the first published decision in Michigan courts to address whether the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act impacts an employer's right to maintain a drug-free workplace and workforce.
  • Horrigan v Eastern Michigan University, in which the Michigan Court of Claims recently dismissed a putative class action against Eastern Michigan University, in which the plaintiff alleged that the university's decision to move to online instruction in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic—which the plaintiff acknowledged was the right thing to do—breached the university's contract with its students.
  • A significant Equal Pay Act matter for Northern Michigan University, which recently settled, involving four faculty members. It was a complex matter that was complicated by the fact that it was being heavily covered by the media.

A virtual ceremony will honor the Class of 2020 in December. The honorees will be profiled in a special section appearing in the Dec. 14, 2020, issue of Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
