Steven J. Kustra is an associate in Miller Canfield's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group.

Steven has a broad range of litigation experience in both civil and criminal cases. No stranger to the courtroom, he has represented clients in both federal and state courts across the State of Michigan and in the Province of Ontario.

Steven has defended major manufacturers in products liability, warranty/consumer law, and class action cases. This representation has given Steven experience in most jurisdictions across the country. His other civil litigation experience includes complex litigation, shareholder disputes and other types of commercial claims.

Although Steven's criminal experience is primarily in white-collar defense, he has represented a variety of clients in a wide range of criminal matters including, RICO violations, health care fraud, and official misconduct. Steven has also participated in conducting internal investigations for both public and private organizations.

Steven has a significant amount of experience in discovery matters, including discovery management and e-discovery. Due to his experience and proficiency, Steven was tapped by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan to provide assistance with electronic discovery and litigation technology in a large RICO trial. 

With dual law degrees from the University of Windsor, Ontario, and the University of Detroit Mercy, Steven is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan and the Province of Ontario. While in law school, he worked as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Edward A. Servitto of the Macomb County Circuit Court, and as an intern in the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Veterans Law Clinic.

Steven is a proud veteran who served in the United States Army, Military Police Corps and was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a result of injuries sustained in combat, Steven was awarded the Purple Heart medal.

In addition to his law practice, Steven is an avid supporter of veteran causes and is involved with a number of veteran-related organizations and initiatives.
