Lance Tyson, a principal in Miller Canfield's Public Finance Group, provides practical, strategic advice to clients on governmental and business matters. He works across several practice areas with specific emphasis in the areas of public finance, real estate, banking, tax credits, private investment funds and government affairs, to help clients solve problems and achieve their business goals. His legal tenure includes serving as Chief of Staff to the President of the Cook County Board, Legislative Counsel to the Mayor of the City of Chicago, Democratic Party slated candidate to the 10th Legislative District of the State of Illinois, and Cook County Sheriff's Merit Board Member.

Representative Matters

  • Bond, Underwriter's, Issuer's and Bank counsel in connection with transactions by the City of Chicago, Board of Education of the City of Chicago, Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago Housing Authority, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Regional Transit Authority and the Illinois Finance Authority.
  • Bond counsel to the State of Illinois on its $3.366 billion pension bond financings.
  • Disclosure counsel in connection with the City of Chicago's 2022 issuance of $1.76 billion in revenue bonds for Chicago O'Hare International Airport. 
  • Represented not-for-profit and for-profit organizations in connection with their affordable housing mixed financings, including HOME, New Market Tax Credits, tax increment financing and other HUD funding sources.
  • Drafted, negotiated and advanced legislation to the Governor's signature for:
    • Soldier Field Expansion Bond Authorization
    • Illinois Affordable Housing Donation Tax Credit
    • Chicago Housing Authority Bond Expansion
    • Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority Bond Authorization
    • Privatization of the Sky Way
