Miller Canfield in Poland was incorporated in 1992 when it established its first office in Gdansk. In 1993 the firm opened its office in Warsaw, which has the largest number of lawyers, and in 1996 the firm opened an office in Katowice, which was relocated to Wroclaw in 2005.

Following are short biographies of the fully licensed senior attorneys involved directly in the firm's Polish Practice Group.
Wojciech Babicki is a licensed attorney (adwokat) and the managing partner of Miller Canfield's Polish offices and co-founder of the firm's offices in Poland. He received his law degree from the University of Gdansk in 1981, followed by the studies at the faculty of English. He speaks fluent English. Prior to joining the firm, Wojciech Babicki was a sole practitioner in Gdansk. In 1989-90 he served as a legal advisor to the Solidarity Trade Union and its Economic Fund and Economic Foundation. He is a member of the Polish Bar Association for Northern Poland and a lecturer on commercial law. He is also an arbitrator with the Commercial Court of Arbitration and serves on the supervisory boards of several companies, including a Polish bank and a leasing company. Mr. Babicki focuses his practice on Polish commercial law, with a special emphasis on tax, antitrust, banking and joint ventures. He is the author of publications on banking law and theory of law.
Richard A. Walawender is a principal of the firm and co-founder of the firm's offices in Poland. He speaks Polish fluently and has extensive experience in public and private finance, commercial law, corporate governance and banking law. He is the head of the firm's International Business Practice Group. While finishing his degree in Russian and East European Studies at the University of Michigan, Mr. Walawender attended Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1981. When Solidarity came to power in Poland in 1989, Solidarity asked Mr. Walawender to advise the new government on establishing a bond program. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1986, and received his bachelor's and post-graduate degrees from the University of Michigan, specializing in Eastern European Studies. Mr. Walawender frequently lectures on Polish business law topics and has served as a National Director of the Polish American Congress. He is also a member of the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan, as well as serving on the supervisory boards of several Polish companies.
Andrzej Chelchowski is a licensed Polish legal advisor (radca prawny), partner and the managing director of the firm's Warsaw office. He received his law degree from Warsaw University in 1992. Prior to joining Miller Canfield, Mr. Chelchowski advised the Ministry of Privatization as a member of the joint legal team of Pro-Invest and Arthur Andersen on the initial stages of privatizing Polish enterprises. He also provides legal advice and lectures on municipal financing, including municipal bonds. Andrzej Chelchowski has participated in numerous projects connected with harmonizing Poland's laws with those of the European Union. Mr. Chelchowski is an expert in real estate development and property law, as well as in Polish commercial law in general. He is fluent in English.
Andrzej Czopski is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Gdynia office and has been with Miller Canfield for over ten years. He graduated from Gdansk University in 1992. He specializes in business and labor law, including legal issues related to the status of foreign nationals in Poland. Mr. Czopski has been involved in many foreign investment projects in Poland. Since 1998 Andrzej Czopski has collaborated with the American Bar Association (Section of Labor and Employment Law) and BNA Books, a law publishing house. He is the co-author of International Labor and Employment Laws, Volume II, published in the United States. Andrzej Czopski is fluent in English and Russian.
Paweł Tenerowicz is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) and the managing director of the firm's Wrocław office. He graduated from Wrocław University in 1997. Prior to joining Miller Canfield he was a partner at IN CORPORE Law Firm. Paweł Tenerowicz specializes in corporate, commercial, tax and civil law. He is fluent in English and Swedish.
Aleksander Deptula is a licensed attorney (adwokat) in the firm's Gdynia office. He graduated from the University of Gdansk in 1998 and also studied British and European Law at the course organized by the University of Cambridge. From 1998-2001 Aleksander Deptula interned at the Regional Court in Gdansk and is a qualified judge. Aleksander Deptula specializes in intellectual property law, general civil law and civil procedures, mergers and acquisition. Mr. Deptula is fluent in English and French.
Paul Fogo is a licensed American attorney with extensive experience in the real estate and foreign investment sectors. Before joining Miller Canfield in 2002, Paul Fogo was associated with the Warsaw office of Hunton and Williams, advising foreign companies on all aspects of establishing their operations in Poland, including the creation of joint-venture companies, the negotiation of technology licensing agreements, purchase of real property and the drafting of share purchase agreements. He received his law degree from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1998. While finishing his law degree, he studied Polish commercial law at Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Prior to entering law school Paul Fogo worked for ten years as a real estate agent in Washington, DC.
Andrzej Kiedrzyn is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Warsaw office. He graduated from Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1982. He obtained his doctorate degree in law at Jagiellonian University in 1990. From 1990-1991 Andrzej Kiedrzyn served as Vice-Consul at the Polish Embassy in New York and as First Secretary at the Polish Embassy in Washington, D.C. In the same year, as a member of the Polish governmental delegation, he participated in the United Nations Conference on Settlements of International Conflicts. Andrzej Kiedrzyn specializes in commercial and administrative law, litigation and customs matters, joint ventures and privatization matters. He is fluent in English and Russian.
Anna Kowalczyk-Pogorzelska is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Warsaw office. She graduated from Warsaw University in 1998. In the same year she completed the studies on British and European Law organized by the University of Cambridge. Anna Kowalczyk-Pogorzelska specializes in real estate, corporate, commercial and administration issues. Her experience includes advising a variety of foreign and Polish investors on site acquisition, lease of land and buildings as well as on execution of all kinds of civil contracts. She also participated in the process of privatization of the state owned entities and assisted in several major due diligence projects within the privatization and Mergers & Acquisition transactions, with particular focus on real estate title check. In addition, she is well acquainted with the administrative procedure to be followed by foreigners to obtain a license of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration necessary for real estate acquisition in Poland. Anna Kowalczyk-Pogorzelska is fluent in English and speaks good Spanish.
Wojciech Langowski is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Warsaw office. He graduated from Jagiellonian University in Cracow in 1997. Wojciech Langowski specializes in real estate, corporate and commercial issues. His experience includes advising foreign investors on site acquisition, lease of land and buildings as well as further stages of development process. He also participated in large due diligence projects with a particular focus on real estate title check. In addition, he is well acquainted with a day-to-day corporate service to large international companies including all kinds of civil contracts being concluded while running any kind of business. He published on the specific issues related to trade of bills of exchange, real property and corporate law. Wojciech Langowski is fluent in English.
Konrad B. Marciniuk is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) and principal in the firm's Warsaw office. He graduated from Warsaw University in 1994. Konrad Marciniuk is a legal specialist on Polish commercial law, including joint ventures, real estate and commercial development transactions. Mr. Marciniuk is also an expert on the European Union legal system and the ongoing harmonization of Polish law with that of the EU. Between 1995-1996 he participated in several seminars on European Union law at Ecole Nationale d'Administration (Paris-Strasbourg), Civil Service College (London), the European Institute of Public Administration (Maastricht) and the Danish School of Public Administration (Copenhagen). Konrad Marciniuk is a lecturer of law at the University of Warsaw. He is fluent in English and Russian.
Konrad Monko is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Gdynia office. He graduated from the University of Gdansk in 1996. His practice area covers civil and commercial law (including litigation). He is a member of the automotive industry group. He is a specialist in product liability issues, including dealer/distributor liability issues. He also works on matters related to unfair competition, advertising and gambling law. He is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, particularly within pan-European and global projects. He is fluent in English.
Karolina Niemirska-Fido is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Warsaw office. She graduated from Warsaw University in 1998. In 1997 she also completed a specialized program in French Graduate Studies on commercial law, in the French language, organized by the University of Poitiers. Karolina Niemirska-Fido specializes in general corporate and commercial law, including real estate and intellectual property law. She has over 5 years of experience in advising Polish and foreign clients conducting business in Poland. She has also been involved in the privatization of stated owned entities and due diligence procedures. Karolina Niemirska-Fido is fluent in English and French.
Kazimierz Romaniec is a licensed legal advisor (radca prawny) in the firm's Warsaw office. He graduated from Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1993. Between 1994 and 1998 he worked in the Tax Department at Arthur Andersen in Warsaw, where he was involved in drafting the tax structures of Polish and foreign companies operating in Poland. From 1998-2000 he worked at Dewey Ballantine in Warsaw, concentrating on tax, commercial and real estate law. Kazimierz Romaniec is a legal specialist in commercial, tax, bankruptcy and real estate development law. He is fluent in English and has good command of French.
Monika Tomczak-Górlikowska is a licensed attorney (adwokat) in the firm's Gdynia office. In addition to the law studies that she completed at the University of Gdansk, she also studied European Union law at the University of Lyon, France, and at the Law Department of the College of Europe in Brugge, Belgium, where she obtained her Master of European Law degree (LLM). She specializes in competition law, EU law, intellectual property law, as well as in personal data protection. Between 2002-2003 Monika Tomczak-Górlikowska worked in the Legal Service of the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union in Brussels, drafting the Treaty of Accession of Poland and other candidate countries to the European Union and finalizing the EU legislation to be published in Polish. Presently, she is involved in projects on compliance of Polish law with the EU legislation. She is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
