We provide assistance in the structuring of business ventures and utilizing the advantage of tribes’ sovereign status.
Miller Canfield attorneys have litigated Native American legal issues arising in a variety of forums and spoken at seminars on the topic, and interact routinely with tribal governments. We have also assisted in the drafting of ordinances and legislation on behalf of tribal governments.
Moreover, Miller Canfield has experience in representing the State of Michigan, municipal governments and public corporations in instances involving Native American Law, including serving as Special Assistant Attorneys General for the State on Indian tax law matters and as lead counsel in complex compact litigation. Miller Canfield attorneys further have participated in compact negotiations between the State and some of the Michigan tribes and have worked with private companies in business ventures with tribes.
