FTC Commissioner Calls Monitoring Online Advertising "Daunting Task"

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the federal agency charged with enforcing regulations prohibiting false and misleading advertisements to consumers. During recent FTC hearings on consumer Internet issues, FTC Commissioner J. Thomas Rosch called the monitoring of online advertising and marketing a "daunting task." Citing ever-increasing sophisticated technology used by businesses in reach out to Internet consumers, Rosch suggested that industry self-regulation and private sector participation are needed to bolster the FTC's efforts.
