April 1, 2002Court Upholds Service of Summons and Complaint Via E-Mail: The Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has held that a Costa Rica-based sports gambling operation with no physical address could be served with a summons and complaint via e-mail. The court noted that the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure permit various methods for substituted service of process and that, under these circumstances, e-mail was an appropriate method.
