Representative Matters

Lara represented a nonprofit organization that dismissed its professional fundraising company for poor performance. The fundraiser had promised to raise $25 million, but had actually cost the nonprofit money by spending more than it had raised. Adding insult to injury, the fundraiser then sued, claiming its contract with the nonprofit could not be terminated for poor performance. Lara filed a motion to dismiss the plaintiff's complaint, arguing that it was illegally providing fundraising services without a license, and that its contract to do so for her client was unenforceable. The plaintiff quickly settled the lawsuit without monetary costs.
