Mark Wilson specializes in health care, environmental, and real estate law. He has represented medical practices in the acquisition, development, construction or renovation of medical offices, freestanding dialysis centers, vascular access facilities and surgical buildings.

 

Experience

Mark, who leads the firm's health care practice, is widely recognized in the medical/legal community for his ability to assist clients in securing quality control and streams of income from a variety of sources.  He is also known for facilitating the creation of the UnaSource Health “megamedaplex” medical buildings in Troy, as well as the WellPointe multi-specialty medical complex in Rochester Hills. Prior to joining the firm, he counseled, negotiated and documented all aspects of industrial, commercial and numerous residential real estate transactions, and also practiced, as needed, in the areas of corporate, tax and construction law.

Representative Matters

Medical
Recognized in the medical/legal community for facilitating the creation of the UnaSource Health "megamedaplex" in Troy containing more than 140,000 square feet of medical, imaging, pharmacy, surgical and laboratory space - one of the largest and most diverse 100% physician-owned medical malls in the state of Michigan.

Structured and implemented combining multiple practices in forming compliant multi-specialty or single specialty practice groups.

Oversaw legal and organizational aspects of the equity funding, leasing, financing, management and construction of the UnaSource Health and UnaSource Health II medical buildings.

Assisted in the formation and development of the largest physician-owned freestanding multi-specialty outpatient surgical center in Southeast Michigan operating in Troy, Michigan as a joint venture of "Qualified Surgeon Investors," Crittenden Hospital, VEI/Indiana Community Hospitals and a wholly owned subsidiary of United Physicians.

Engaged by 14 Troy Beaumont-based physician practice groups to oversee the organizational aspects of the equity funding, leasing, financing, management and construction of a 90,000 square foot WellPointe multispecialty medical complex in Rochester Hills adjacent to Troy Beaumont Hospital.

Represented a variety of medical practices in the acquisition, development, construction, or renovation of medical offices, free standing dialysis centers, vascular access facilities, laboratories, and surgical buildings.

Represented medical practices and unified practice groups to develop alternative sources of income in compliance with Stark and Anti-Kickback statutes.

Researched and drafted private placement memoranda related to various private offerings or subscriptions to fund major medical or commercial projects.

Environmental
Headed law firm Environmental Law & Real Estate Practice Group with extensive experience with Phase I & Phase II investigations, Baseline Assessment & Due Care certifications; Remedial Action plans; "Brownfield" redevelopment and tax credits; transactional due diligence and negotiations; represented clients and municipalities on environmental issues with US EPA, Department of Justice, Michigan Attorney General, and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality; member of various Superfund Coordinating and Litigation Committees; represented clients in private rights of action, cost recovery, contribution and indemnification and toxic tort litigation; counseled clients in all aspects of environmental risk assessment.

Real Estate
Counseled, negotiated and documented all aspects of industrial, commercial, and residential real estate transactions; also practiced as needed in the areas of corporate, tax, and construction law. Successfully completed numerous Section 1031 like kind exchanges. One of the attorneys-of-record for the Little v. Kin riparian rights case decided by the Michigan Supreme Court in 2004.
