Miller Canfield Lawyers Named "Best Lawyers" in Canada
November 16, 2012Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, has named Jerry L. Goldberg, a principal in the Windsor office, and Jeffrey M. Slopen, a principal in the Windsor and Toronto offices, as 2013 "Best Lawyers" in Canada. Goldberg was recognized for his work in Real Estate; Slopen was recognized for his work in Corporate Law.
They join 135 of their U.S. colleagues from Miller Canfield who were selected as "Best Lawyers," ranking the firm as a leader in Michigan in the number of lawyers named.
Goldberg is resident director of Miller Canfield’s Windsor office. His practice area centers on real estate and personal services. He is a past president and an active member of the Windsor Estate Planning Council. He has been a director and officer of the Windsor Jewish Federation. Earlier this year, he was honoured, along with his wife Frances, by the Jewish National Fund (JNF) of Windsor in recognition of their community leadership and public service. He received his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University and his B.A. from the University of Windsor.
Slopen, who is a member of the bars of Ontario and Michigan, practices in the areas of business law, mergers and acquisitions and real estate development. He earned his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy, his Canadian LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Toronto, Ontario, and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws in 2009 from Assumption University, an affiliate of the University of Windsor. He has lectured at the University of Windsor Law School and programs of the Canadian Bar Association. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Joint JD/LLB Degree Program at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy Law School.
Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which more than 39,000 leading attorneys cast almost 3.1 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers "the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice."
