Training and mentoring is crucial to the development of every lawyer, whether brand-new to the Bar or weathered by 20 years' experience. Miller Canfield University was designed to help address the need for each of us to continue to develop our skills, our practice, our colleagues and ourselves. There are a broad range of practice and personal development, technology, procedure, and substantive courses offered each semester, as well as classes to help us understand the business side of the practice of law. The course offerings are taught, often in-house by Miller Canfield attorneys, clients and professional educators.
We believe that an institutionalized mentoring program is very important to the early development of our lawyers, and so we asked some of our associates to create and manage such a program. Our Mentoring Program emphasizes early assignment of a mentor/mentee relationship, regular communication between the two, periodic evaluation of the relationship and appropriate acknowledgment by the firm of successes.
