Associate Benefits Summary
This summary is intended only to highlight the benefits provided by the firm. In all cases, the insurance contracts, benefit plans and established personnel policies are controlling. Please direct any questions concerning benefits to the Human Resources Department.
Compensation
An annual base salary is set for each associate class and paid on a biweekly basis. Associates are also eligible for consideration for a discretionary year-end bonus.
Associates joining the firm directly from law school or judicial clerkships may have signing bonuses in lieu of, or in addition to, a year-end bonus.
Banking Services
A free checking account is available with Comerica if you direct deposit all or a portion of your paycheck with them.
Holidays
Holidays are set by the firm on a yearly basis and may vary. Common holidays are:

Insurance
The effective dates for the following insurance coverages are either immediate or on the first of the month following your date of hire. Insurance booklets provide more detailed information.
Hospitalization, Major Medical, Prescription and Dental Coverages
The firm offers a comprehensive health plan, associates and dependents are covered. Where geographically available, you can also select from health maintenance organization and preferred provider organization options. Plan deductibles and co-pays vary by type of coverage selected. There is a nominal charge for the coverage, with the advantage that the cost is payable in pretax dollars.
Flexible Spending Account
Under the appropriate IRS code regulations, the firm has established a flexible spending program that allows childcare and certain medical expenses to be paid in pretax dollars, thereby creating significant cost savings for the associate.
Short-Term Disability
If an associate is ill or injured and unable to work, the plan pays 100% of base pay for up to 180 days.
Long-Term Disability
Beginning with the 181st day of total disability, the plan pays 60% of base pay per month (maximum $10,000) for the duration of the disability as defined by the insurance contract. Benefits continue until age 65 if the associate continues to be fully disabled.
Life
Based upon salary level, coverage is up to a maximum of $125,000.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment
Based upon salary level, coverage is up to a maximum of $125,000.
401(k) Capital Accumulation Plan
Associates are immediately eligible for participation in the firm's 401(k) plan. Participation includes all full and part time positions in which an associate works 1000 hours.
Vacation Days
The specific vacation schedule for each associate will normally be set by the individual letter offer. If not stated, the following standard will apply.
If hired before July 1st, an attorney is eligible for one week of vacation during their first partial year of employment. During the first full calendar year of employment, an attorney is granted two weeks of paid vacation. During the second full calendar year of employment with the firm, an attorney is granted three weeks of paid vacation. During the third and all succeeding full calendar years of employment, an attorney is granted four weeks of paid vacation.
Other Benefits
The firm offers group cellular phone programs and subsidizes the monthly costs.
The firm will match a contribution to the law school of your choice up to $100.00.
The firm covers bar membership dues in local, state and national bar associations.
