Paul Biebel brings to Miller Canfield over 40 years of legal experience in both private and public sectors. Paul served as Assistant State’s Attorney, First Assistant Attorney General and Public Defender of Cook County before his years in private practice, where he was a partner at both Winston & Strawn and Altheimer & Gray. Most recently, Paul served as Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division, Circuit Court of Cook County.

In 1996, Judge Biebel was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court as a judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. He was elected to that position in 1998, and served in the traffic, misdemeanor, preliminary hearing and domestic violence courts between October of 1996 and April of 1997. In April of 1997, he was assigned to the Juvenile Court, Child Protection Division, where he served until January of 2000.  In January of 2000, Judge Biebel was assigned as a Chancellor in the Chancery Division.  In January of 2001, he was appointed by then Chief Judge Donald P. O’Connell to serve as the Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division, overseeing the operation of the largest and busiest criminal courthouse in America.
