Matthew B. Van Dyk represents clients in a wide range of real estate-related matters. These include zoning and entitlement issues, tax and governmental incentive projects, regulatory issues, planned developments, 1031 transactions, affordable housing projects,, land assemblage, multi-state development and financing, commercial and residential development, condominium development, mixed-use development, acquisitions, dispositions and leasing.   Much of his practice is devoted to multi-faceted, complex transactional and development work for large, sophisticated institutional clients, but he also helps inexperienced individual clients navigate their way through what can sometimes be confusing and overwhelming areas of the law.

“My goal in every transaction is to help my clients efficiently and creatively get from where they are to where they want to go while reducing their risk and exposure as much as possible.”
Matthew B. Van Dyk

Experience

A client wanted to significantly expand one of its production facilities, but there were some serious problems blocking the way -- the property in question was owned by several people, it was not zoned for the client's intended use, it had some environmental challenges, and it seemed to be too expensive. Through hard work and some creative thinking, Matthew and his team were able to work with the sellers, the local municipality, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the state's development authority to bring the project to a successful conclusion.

“We were able to help our client creatively overcome multiple legal and bureaucratic challenges, any one of which could easily have been a show-stopper, to bring their project to fruition.”
