Kent E. Shafer’s practice area focuses on corporations, securities and blue sky laws. He represents issuers and underwriters in public offerings of securities; represents issuers and investors in private placement transactions; advises public companies about reporting and corporate governance issues; and assists in matters relating to mergers and acquisitions.
“I try to give our business clients advice that is both technically correct and useful in their decision making. When there is no clear answer to a legal question, clients want a clear statement of factors to be weighed and potential risks and rewards that will equip them to make an informed judgment.”
Kent E. Shafer
Experience
Kent helped a client sell a business in a very complicated transaction that involved 14 companies operating in 10 countries and required more than 140 documents. His client had a tight deadline and very little bargaining power, but the deal closed on time and with reasonably favorable terms.
“I helped our client negotiate the best deal it could under the circumstances by making sure our people handled the complexities and provided our client with the information it needed to evaluate the most important economic and risk allocation issues.”
