Since 1982, Kathleen Neher has worked at three defense-oriented law firms, an employment law firm and at one corporation.  Most of Kathleen’s law firm experience is related to various types of defense litigation.  She worked as a medical malpractice paralegal, workers' compensation and personal injury paralegal for many years.  She summarized medical records, researched and retained experts, scheduled expert and client depositions, did medical research, obtained all types of records, investigated witnesses and accident sites, drafted basic pleadings (Answers to complaints, motions, briefs, witness lists, discovery requests, among others), assisted with the preparation of appellate briefs and, most importantly, assisted with the preparation for and provided support for many trials.

Since then, Kathleen has done similar pleading preparation, document management and production, and she has provided hearing support in commercial litigation matters, with most of her experience in securities arbitrations.  She recently resumed handling foreign trademark registrations and renewals for corporate clients.  She supports our tax attorneys by doing legal research, case briefing, preparing property tax appeal documents, and doing research regarding properties and special assessment districts.  She has monitored trials at the request of clients.

Kathleen is experienced with trial exhibit display software (Sanction); document management software (Summation);  and case management software (CaseMap).  She has extensive on-line legal research experience (WestLaw & Lexis).  She frequently researches internet data bases and court resources (Pacer).  She is able to work with Excel and she uses Access while working on trademark matters.  She has prepared PowerPoint presentations for hearings and presentations.  She is both a PC and Mackintosh user.

As a senior paralegal, Kathleen has supervised clerical staff, billable technicians and other paralegals.  At most of her places of employment, she has assisted with the formulation of office procedures to manage cases, keep files organized and otherwise increase the efficiency of the team.

One of the partners with whom Kathleen works recently wrote, “ Kathleen stepped in quickly to a project which involved numerous renewals and recordations of name changes in connection with foreign trademark registrations.  There were severe time constraints on some of the filings.  She is very organized and caught on very quickly to the procedures for meeting the deadlines.  She is very conscientious and is good about keeping me informed.  As a result of this experience, Kathleen has honed her organizational skills and has become very comfortable with interacting with foreign counsel and foreign requirements.”

Experience

In her corporate position, at Capital Records, in Hollywood, CA., she supported outside law firms who were handling complex royalty disputes for the company.  She filed copyright applications to protect sound recordings, album artwork, & liner notes.  She registered and renewed the company’s trademarks all over the world.  She processed garnishments and levies on employees’ wages and artists’ royalties. She testified as a company representative in a federal piracy matter in Aberdeen, Louisiana.  She managed the critical dates and otherwise instructed company representatives regarding their obligations under Capital Records’ manufacturing and distribution agreements with smaller record companies such as Rhino Records, Virgin Records, and Island Records.
