Dennis J. Tobin combines a unique legal practice in the Corporate/Commercial and Commercial and Retail leasing areas. In his corporate practice, Dennis is regularly involved in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital transactions, shareholder agreements and disagreements, start ups and providing strategic corporate advice for small, medium and large corporations. Dennis represents a number of overseas companies operating in Canada in their retail and corporate operations. He represents landlords and tenants and his leasing experience extends to most major retail centres in Canada’s major centres, including Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Dennis' expertise includes successfully negotiating and drafting retail, commercial and industrial leases. Dennis is the co-leader of the Canadian Practice Group together with John Leslie.
I have more than 20 years of knowledge and experience gained in the practice of law. I focus on using that to create value for our clients. As part of a great professional organization, I also have access to the experience and knowledge of my colleagues in a variety of disciplines.

Representative Matters
- Business Sale Transaction
Instrumental in finding a buyer for a private business and counseling the vendors in the structuring, drafting and negotiating of the agreements and the closing of the transaction.
- Commercial Real Estate Purchase
Leasing counsel to a purchaser of two buildings in downtown Toronto. Responsible for lease due diligence, review and evaluation.
- International Retailers Leasing
Lead counsel to international retailers in drafting and negotiating precedent leases for major shopping centres in Canada as well as drafting and negotiating large multistoried building leases for street-front superstores in a number of major cities in Canada.
- Retailer Lease Litigation
Corporate counsel to a retailer involved in litigation with its landlord over renewal rights; successful resolution of the matter and negotiation of a transition strategy to new store.
- Vendor Group Cross-Border Share Sale
Retained as special corporate counsel to represent 80 minority shareholders who were part of a vendor group selling 100% of the shares of a large Toronto-based business to a public corporation in the USA.
