David J. Ford has a range of experience protecting intellectual property in the United States and throughout the world. He regularly counsels and provides guidance to individuals, start-up companies, domestic businesses, and international corporations to develop and implement effective IP strategies.
David is knowledgeable in all aspects of IP protection including patent and trademark prosecution; patentability, validity and infringement opinions; trademark oppositions; technology transfers and licensing; copyrights; and domain name disputes. He has managed and prosecuted a global trademark portfolio with registrations issued in 50+ countries.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has successfully prosecuted patents for a variety of automotive technologies including body and chassis, interiors, exteriors, closure systems, lighting systems, and powertrain components. Other technologies include medical devices, machines for testing vehicle components, manufacturing systems, HVAC, and dental equipment.
David’s previous work experience as an engineer in the automotive industry gives him an appreciation of the many challenges involved when developing novel solutions to unique problems.
Experience
During law school, David was an intern at the Michigan Court of Appeals Research Division.
David has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering and worked as an engineer at both Ford Motor Company and Nemak of Canada prior to attending law school.
